Apple finally releases redesigned, speedier iTunes 11

We've known that Apple would release iTunes 11, the significantly redesigned version of its desktop media player, at some point in November. We just hadn't expected to be kept waiting until the very end of the month.

iTunes 11 finally became available for download on Thursday, bringing a sleek interface which appears to be heavily influenced by its iOS counterparts. There are new library views, albums can expand in place, the MiniPlayer view is even smaller, and recommendations are improved. The new version of iTunes also spotlights the iTunes Store — which has a shiny new look across platforms — and improved iCloud integration. Oh, and everything's speedy, unlike in the bloated iTunes versions of the past.

You can download iTunes 11 by hitting the "Check For Updates" button in the app or heading to the Apple website. Do note that the update may not instantly be available, so be patient and check back if it's not showing up for you right away.
