Actress Ellen Page gets a digital makeover for the forthcoming gameQuantic Dream

Ellen Page -- the Academy Award-nominated actress from films such as "Inception" and "Juno" --  is making the leap from movies to video games.

Sony and game developer Quantic Dream announced Monday night that she will play a woman with mysterious powers in the forthcoming game "Beyond: Two Souls."

Quantic Dream is the development company behind the outstanding, cinematic PlayStation 3 game "Heavy Rain." And the game's director - David Cage - vowed Monday: "'Beyond' will be unlike anything else you've experienced before."

The announcement came as part of Sony's pre-E3 press conference. E3 -- the biggest game show in the world --- gets under way in Los Angeles Tuesday.

Many had hoped Quantic Dream would unveil a new game at E3, especially after the developers recently revealed the new motion capture technology they're developing in the short film "Kara." (See below).

Quantic Dream is best known for "Heavy Rain" -- a cinematic, moving game that fused film-like story telling and video gaming into one highly compelling and emotional package.

For their new game, Cage said Page will play Jodie Holmes as gamers take her through 15 years of her life. He also said the game will explore death and the afterlife and promised it would be "emotional, mature and unique."
