(UPDATE below) Microsoft has confirmed that its Xbox Live online gaming and video service is down ... at least for some Xbox owners.
According to the Xbox Support Twitter account and this Xbox Live Service Status page, as of 10:30 a.m. PST some users may be having trouble signing into Xbox Live as well as the Zune marketplace.
(Msnbc.com is a joint venture of Microsoft and NBCUniversal.)
The Xbox Support Twitter account confirmed that, as of 9:30, Microsoft was aware of the problem and looking into the issues. The company has not said what the cause of the problem is.
The problems do not seem to be affecting all users, however. As of this writing, I am not having any issues with Xbox Live connectivity and other users are reporting similar smooth sailing.
UPDATED: Via its Twitter account, Xbox Support says the Xbox Live service should be back up and running for all users. It did not say what caused the outage.
