Report: iPhone 5 to have huge screen

Feb. 15, 2011 at 11:25 AM ET

We've heard reports that Apple is working on building a smaller, cheaper iPhone, but now we're hearing another rumor: The hardware maker is also working on a bigger iPhone.

DIGITIMES reports that component suppliers who work with Apple shared details which imply that the company is intending to build an iPhone with a 4-inch display:

The component suppliers noted that the production lines for Apple's next generation iPhone have begun testing, and Apple is interesting in expanding the screen size to 4-inches to support the tablet PC market as the vendor only has a 9.7-inch iPad in the market.

While this report certainly ins't a guarantee that the iPhone 5 will be a big-screened monster, it would be reasonable for Apple to consider giving the next generation iPhone a bigger display in order to compete with some of large Android devices on the market.
