Skyfire, the people who launched the Flash-playing iPhone browser — which then crashed their servers because of its popularity — have brought their wares to the iPad. If you have an iPad or have been good enough to be getting one from Old Saint Nick, you should watch the video above.
In addition to playing full-screen Flash video (at least when their servers are working properly, which Skyfire assures us is the case), it has some very cool social-media features, including embedded Facebook, Twitter and Google Reader, a "universal" Like button, and the Fireplace, a pop-up window containing a boiled-down Facebook newsfeed that just has posts with links. So there's no overly trivial status updates, no baby pictures (of which I am guilty — sorry!), just leads to facts and fun on the World Wide Web.
Skyfire for iPad is not in the App Store yet, since Apple still has to approve it, but the company is hoping to get it out to the public by Christmas. It will likely cost more than $2.99 — probably $4.99. We'll test it properly when we get a chance, but even if the Flash features aren't working as billed, the social buttons should make it worth a look for many people. More info at Skyfire.
