Report: Apple's testing multiple designs for television sets

There have been so many rumors about Apple quietly designing its own television sets that we're reasonably sure that we'll see 'em in our living rooms one of these days. Especially if the latest rumor — that Apple's in the process of testing various TV designs — pans out.

The report comes via the Wall Street Journal's Lorraine Luk, who cites anonymous sources "familiar with the situation," writing that Apple's already working with component suppliers in Asia on the iTV project. Or Apple TV. Or whatever you want to call it until the folks in Cupertino finally tell us something official about this rumored gadget.

"Executives at some of Apple's suppliers said the company has been testing designs for a large-screen high-definition set," Luk explains before adding that one of the sources clarified that this "isn't a formal project yet" and that it "is still in the early stage of testing."

Curiously enough, Apple CEO Tim Cook, when asked about the company's future plans by Rock Center's Brian Williams jumped right to the topic of televisions. “When I go into my living room and turn on the TV, I feel like I have gone backwards in time by 20 to 30 years,” Cook said. “It’s an area of intense interest. I can’t say more than that.”
