That's right, the Facebook of 1998, but still one of the most visited sites on the Web, is down. At least last we checked. The Twitterverse is abuzz: "It turns out that Yahoo has been down since July. People are just noticing today," said our friend, Tested.com's Will Smith. "Apparently, 1999 called and said they wanted Yahoo back. And their wish was granted," said TechCrunch's MG Siegler.
More perspective comes from WSJ's Kara Swisher, who says: "Yahoo is never down. So the fact that its massive Web site is showing a 'server outage' sign and little else is pretty astonishing. And not in a good way, since the company is in the midst of a swirl of takeover rumors, executive turmoil and worries about weak earnings next week."
UPDATE: OK, now it's back up. Here's a fun collection of tweets, to help you relive the moment.
