Sen. Bob Dole on MTP July 22, 1984

Just three days after the 1984 Democratic Convention - which nominated the late Geraldine Ferraro as the first woman Vice Presidential candidate - Republican Sen. Bob Dole appeared on MTP and was asked about the history-making pick. As part of a political duo himself (with his wife Elizabeth Dole then serving as Secretary of Transportation), Sen. Dole said, “I’m not paranoid about a woman on the ticket.  I think it’s long overdue.” He went on to joke about his wife's own potential presidential aspirations.
