BRIAN WILLIAMS, anchor: In political news, late this afternoon Scott Brown was sworn in and seated as the newest United States senator . Now that Brown , a Republican, has been seated, the Democrats have lost their 60-vote so-called super majority . Brown fills the Massachusetts seat held by the late Senator Ted Kennedy for almost half a century. For now, Brown will have Kennedy old -- Kennedy 's old office as a temporary office but not his desk. Senator Kennedy 's desk is going to the new senior senator from the Bay State , John Kerry .
