BRIAN WILLIAMS, anchor: Plastic shopping bags may be about to go the way of public smoking in California . State lawmakers are set to vote on a plastic bag ban, arguing the 19 billion of them that are used per year are bad for the environment and cost the state $25 million a year to dump in the landfills. The plastic bag industry has been furiously opposed to the bill, calling it a job killer.
