More children raised by grandparents, study shows

The Pew Center analyzed census data, and found that just under 3 million children were raised by a grandparent in 2008. NBC's Brian Williams reports.

BRIAN WILLIAMS, anchor (New Orleans): New numbers are just out, showing more children are being raised by their grandparents these days. Researchers at the Pew Center analyzed Census data and found that almost three million American children were being raised by a grandparent in '08. That's up 16 percent from back in 2000 . Analysts said there are a lot of reasons for it, including single parents being financially overwhelmed in this economy, high divorce rates and long military deployments.
