Northeast in grip of record low temps

The bitter cold that put the Midwest in the deep freeze last week moved East on Monday, making it dangerous just to be outside for residents of Pennsylvania all the way up through New England. NBC's Brian Williams reports.

BRIAN WILLIAMS, anchor: The bitter cold that put the Midwest in the deep freeze last week has moved east, and from Pennsylvania and New York , up through New England , it's downright dangerous out there. Thirty-four below -- that'll get your attention -- 50 below wind chills in New Hampshire . Even colder, minus-37 in upstate New York . The cities weren't spared from this. Minus-two in Boston , six above here in New York this morning. Getting around was tough. If your car wouldn't go, perhaps in this case it was because of a busted water main that encased an Audi entirely in ice.
