>>> a victory for consumers everywhere. here's a story for every person who's taken out a credit card at the cash register and been asked for your zip code . have you ever wondered why they ask? why in order to buy a pack of gum do they first need to know where you come from? of course it's for their own marketing and research, but let's hope it stops now. a week after the supreme court of california ruled in a case involving williams-sonoma, that stores may no longer ask customers for their zip codes as part of a transaction, now more than a dozen new lawsuits have been filed against big names like walmart, bed, bath and beyond and crate and barrel.
