Pawlenty declares candidacy for president

Former Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty formally opened his bid for Republican presidential nomination with a critique of President Obama. NBC's Brian Williams reports.

BRIAN WILLIAMS, anchor (Joplin, Missouri): Former Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty , in presidential politics, formally declared he is a presidential candidate today, and he did it notably in Iowa . Pawlenty said today he has what it takes to unite his Republican Party and the country. He said he will tell the American people the truth. He got a big boost over this past weekend when, potential GOP rival, Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels announced he will not be running.
