>>> we're back on the jersey shore , we want to spend a moment talking about the massive and obvious travel disruptions by air and rail and ground caused by this storm. ron mott is standing by at laguardia airport . ron, i mentioned flooding at the airport, let's say you can get to the airport, i think it's going to be tough to find any hardware there for a long while.
>> reporter: absolutely, brian, good evening to you. air travel simply put is going to be a mess and that's going to have a ripple effect across the country. you can see people at laguardia trying to get out in advance of irene's arrival. we have mass transit shut down this weekend in new york and new jersey. airlines are expected to cancel 5,000 flights and counting between now and monday as the airlines are trying to get their aircraft out of harm's way and if you're holding a ticket on amtrak, trains all the way down to miami, those routes have been short ened so all the way down the east coast , they're going to be feeling the effect of irene.
