BRIAN WILLIAMS, anchor: October may be just getting going, but it pretty much looked like winter in Northern California today. As much as a foot of snow in the higher elevations of the Sierra Nevadas which is unusual for this time of year.

Chicago is expected to have the worst winter weather in the country this year if those long-range forecasts are worth anything.
