CBO: Incomes for top 1 percent grew 275 percent

Incomes grew by 275 percent from the years 1979 to 2007 for the country’s top one percent, data released by the Congressional Budget Office Wednesday shows. But for the middle class, incomes grew by just under 40 percent over the same period.

BRIAN WILLIAMS, anchor: One of the main arguments of the Occupy Wall Street protesters was pretty much confirmed today by numbers released by the Congressional Budget Office . It's about the top 1 percent of American society . From 1979 to '07, incomes grew by 275 percent for the 1 percent of the population with the highest incomes in this country. For the middle class, incomes grew by just under 40 percent for the same time period.
