Pop singer Dobie Gray dies

Pop singer Dobie Gray has died in Nashville. He was 69. NBC’s Brian Williams reports.

BRIAN WILLIAMS, anchor: Well, the man who brought us that song has died. Dobie Gray recorded " Drift Away " back in 1973 . It's in a lot of oldies collections out there, along with his other hit, "The 'In' Crowd." Dobie Gray was born into a sharecropper family in Texas . He moved to California , where Sonny Bono gave him his career break. He wrote songs for Ray Charles , Tammy Wynette , among others. Dobie Gray dead in Nashville at the age of 69.
