BRIAN WILLIAMS, anchor: We lost almost 33,000 Americans in motor vehicle accidents last year. And while we mourn for all of them and their families, it is the lowest number since Harry Truman was president in 1949 . Researchers say it's because cars are safer, our kids are being taught to be better drivers, and alcohol-related deaths are way down. And all of this happened even though we are driving more miles as a nation.
