Carroll Shelby, sports car builder, has died

The race car driver whose crowning creation was the Shelby Cobra has died at the age of 89. NBC’s Brian Williams reports.

>> every american kid who grew up loving cars lost a giant today. for some of us hard core car guys, he was a hero. his name was carroll shelby . he knew cars, engines and how to put them toovl and go really fast. he lived just as fast. married seven times. as a race car driver , he was fearless. he once drove in a 200 mile race while taking nitrogris rn pills because he thought he was having a heart attack at the wheel. his crowning creation was the shelby. a british body on a fort v-8. his signature shelby mustangs combine two great name plates . they will always be a collector's item. his legacy is the 2013 gt-500 mustang. it has 650 horse power making it the most powerful production v-8 in the world with the power to set your hair on fire just the way he would have liked it. carroll shelby was 89 years old.
