Meningiomas more common in women

Singer Sheryl Crow recently revealed she had been diagnosed with a meningioma, a type of brain tumor that accounts for nearly 30 percent of brain tumors in the U.S. More than 90 percent of them are benign. NBC’s Dr. Nancy Snyderman reports.

>> it's unclear if that incident was related to the tumor. but her announcement is putting the spotlight on a frightening but not uncommon diagnose. it's estimated up to 10,000 people in the united states are diagnosed in the u.s. each year. they're three times more common in women, particularly in those between the ages of 40 and 70.
