Sandy a triple threat in West Virginia

Hurricane Sandy is bringing high winds, snow and heavy rain to West Virginia, where residents are scrambling to buy food, bottled water and generators. NBC’s Janell Klein reports from Snowshoe, W.V.

>> and this storm, with the left hook it joined up with another storm that contains cold canadian air. that means on the back end, the western part, the snow is on the back end. named snow shoe , west virginia , 140 miles outside of charlestonsville, good evening.

>> reporter: good evening, while sandy hits the east coast , it is dumping a lot of snow here in snow shoe , dumping heavy rain and high winds . it could dump as much as two feet here in the area, and with west virginia already in a state of emergency , the big concern is a widespread power outage . people are running to buy food and water, the stand by around the state, they're stock piling salt, sand for roads. and state shelters are opening, calling for more staff. and much of the area is in a whiteout. and the national weather service says is it may be the first time they issued a blizzard warning because of rricane. early snow is good reports, for the ski resorts , and many areas say they will plan their earliest opening ever. they say they're happy about the snow although they didn't expect to get it so
