>>> quick update tonight on the so-called fiscal cliff negotiations. we learned today the obama white house and house speaker john boehner 's office have exchanged proposals. they even talked by phone this evening on taxes and spending. no detailses as to what's actually in either side's offer. but our chief white house correspondent, chuck todd is telling us tonight neither side seems to have budged very far from their original positions. no surprise there. separately, the senate majority leader, harry reid , told reporters today it's going to be "extremely difficult to get a deal done by christmas." sadly, no surprise there either.
