First female Marine Corps general, laid to rest
Brigadier General Margaret A. Brewer, the first woman to reach the rank of general in the Marine Corps, has been laid to rest in a military service. Born in Durand, Michigan in 1930, Brewer became a Marine second lieutenant in 1952. She was appointed brigadier general by President Jimmy Carter in 1978, assuming the duty of Director of Information. Brigadier General Brewer was 82.
