April 9, 1963: Winston Churchill proclaimed first honary citizen of U.S.

From the Archives: In a ceremony in the Rose Garden of the White House, President John Kennedy proclaimed Sir Winston Churchill the first honorary citizen of the United States. Churchill was physically unable to attend, his son and grandson accepted the award for him.
