GOP's Collins to support background checks

Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, is the first GOP senator to say publicly she will vote for the bipartisan compromise on expanded background checks for the sale of guns online and at gun shows. NBC’s Kelly O’Donnell reports.

>> reporter: good everyoning, i spoke with maine senator, susan collins , she is up up for re-election next year from a state that has some of the highest rates of gun ownership. she said this bill does not require background checks on private citizens, but it's a responsible break through from two senators with far higher nra ratings than her own. and she said that she was deeply moved from the newtown families. collins was with them instead of dining with the president. she said that she was embarrassed to be an hour late and he said good call.
