Defense prepares to call witnesses in Bulger trial

The defense will call witnesses in the trial of James “Whitey” Bulger this week, hoping to undermine the credibility of the more than 60 witnesses who took the stand for the prosecution. NBC’s Michelle Franzen reports.

>> reporter: james bulger is on trial for the mob style killings of 19 people and extorting millions of dollars from the victims during the '70s and '80s. victims, drug dealers and hit men who are serving time for murder and plea deals.

>> their mouthed were open watches thee thugs scream profanities at each other. i think the difference where you take about whitey bulger , is that he managed to corrupt the fbi.

>> it was his fbi handler who tipped him off that he was about to be arrested in 1995 after six years and a nationwide man hunt he was finally found living with his girlfriend living in a santa monica apartment. and they're expected to call more than a dozen witnesses and if indicated he could take the stand.
