Cheers! Prohibition ended 80 years ago today
As it turned out, prohibition from the beginning meant nothing but trouble. It heralded an era of gangs that struck the nation with violence. In New York and Chicago a murder a day was attributed to the racketeers. But on Dec. 5 1933, prohibition was officially brought to an end, and many Americans crowded saloons and bars to celebrate.
