Christmas Eve shoppers not swayed

If you can believe it, the after-Christmas sales have already started. NBC's Gabe Gutierrez reports.

>> reporter: good evening, many retailers are offering extended hours tonight. this k-mart will stay open until about 10:00 tonight, and last minute christmas shoppers have never had so many options. tonight, the procrastinators are out. and the deals are drafting.

>> everything we got was on sale.

>> reporter: near atlanta, this woman just started her christmas shopping this morning, so she is glad many retailers extended their christmas eve hours.

>> i think it is great for people who work a lot and have odd hours you know, and don't have a 9 to 5 :00 job, so it is definitely coming in handy for us.

>> reporter: some macy's and a variety of stores are open. but customers seem to be holding back, one survey found nearly a quarter of last minute holiday shoppers were waiting for better deals, more like 60 or 70% off.

>> at the malls we have reported from this week, it is striking how many stores are promoting deep discounts, the kind you expect to see after christmas .

>> reporter: is already rolling out its after- christmas sale with 70% off of some items, so is old navy, with some mark downs up to 50%.

>> it can be up to 15%.

>> reporter: the other changes, brick and mortar stores are down, but on line sales are up. bloomingdales reports that procrastinate procrastinators have all the fun on this site. other customers were tied to this smartphone apps.

>> it helped me to save about $30 over at macy's. they had a coupon.

>> reporter: a good deal for customers, but what about the employ employees who have to work longer hours?

>> well, you know if you're in retail, you know this is the super bowl .

>> reporter: and tonight, the play clock is running out. just a few hours to go at this k-mart, but don't worry, tamryn, the day after these check lines will re-open at 8:00 in the morning.
