Andy Eckardt is a producer based in Mainz, Germany, covering news for all of NBC News' platforms. He started this role in 1994.

He was part of NBC's coverage of the 2013 election of Pope Francis and the aftermath of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines. He also covered the Israel-Gaza conflict in November 2012, the death of Pope John Paul II in 2005 and the 60th anniversary of Allied invasion in Normandy in 2004 and 2014.

In 2007, Andy was recognized for his contributions to the Emmy Award-winning investigative report "The Secret Battle Over Body Armor" on NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams.

Eckardt previously worked as a field producer for Worldwide Television News in Frankfurt, with a focus on news reports, sports and entertainment.

Eckardt spent his childhood in West Berlin and Wiesbaden, Germany, as well as Long Beach, Calif., and Boston, Mass. He lives near Frankfurt, Germany, with his wife and two children.
