Celebrity Real Estate: Jay-z, Beyonce and Baby Blue's vacation home

This week in celebrity real estate we're looking at the Hamptons estate what will house the hip-hop family Beyonce, Jay-Z and their daughter Blue Ivy, and the compound listed by director Joel Schumacher.

Beyonce, Jay-Z and Baby Blue Ivy rent Hamptons estate

The king and queen of hip-hop, along with their progeny, are escaping Manhattanfor the Hamptons for the month of August, reports the New York Post. Beyonce, Jay-Z and baby Blue Ivy are spending the remaining summer days in the an enormous Hamptons estate coined the Sandcastle. With more than 31,000 square feet of living space, the home has more than enough room for the little family and any visiting guests.

Sandcastle is the brainchild of Hamptons developer Joe Farrell, who built it in 2005 and listed it shortly after for a whopping $59.5 million. The price was chopped to $49.5 million in 2010, and it later was relisted at its current price of $43.5 million.

The home hasn't been vacant while it sat on the Bridgehampton real estate market. Florida single mom Cheryl Mercuris famously rented the home for $500,000 for two weeks in an effort to find a rich banker, but although she probably enjoyed her time on the 11.5-acre estate, she didn't end up snagging a billionaire.

Although Mercuris dropped $500K for two weeks, Beyonce and Jay-Z snagged a deal, only paying $400,000 for the entire month of August, according to the Post.

Not only does the Bridgehampton rental have "exotic materials and masterful finishes," such as walnut floors, granite and marble, it's also stock full of celebworthy amenities. Among the features of the home are:

  • 2,800-square-foot master suite
  • Two-lane bowling alley
  • Virtual golf course
  • Skateboard half-pipe
  • Rock climbing wall
  • Media room
  • Full bar and disco
  • Recreation facility with gym, basketball and squash court

Outside, the home is just as impressive with an enormous pool, spa, sunken tennis court and outdoor kitchen.

Director Joel Schumacher lists California compound

He directed "Batman Forever," but his California compound wasn't as enduring. Joel Schumacher has placed his seven-acre compound on the Carpinteria market for $9.45 million. According to The Wall Street Journal, Schumacher is selling because he doesn't spend as much time at the estate as he used to.

Schumacher designed the four-parcel compound in 2000, creating a rustic estate filled with art and unique finishes, such as reclaimed barn wood. Previously featured in Architectural Digest, the home at 7455 Shepard Mesa Rd., Carpinteria, Calif., 93013 is made up of four separate buildings, spanning 6,500 square feet in all.

Perched in the hills just outside Santa Barbara, the retreat is intensely private, surrounded by mature landscaping and ocean and mountain views. Outside, the property has an infinity pool, patios and walking trails.

Schumacher is best known for his work on "Batman Forever," but he has several top films under his belt, including '80s "brat pack" contribution "St. Elmo's Fire," teen horror classic "The Lost Boys," the dark hit "8MM" and musical adaptation "Phantom of the Opera."

According to current mortgage rates, a monthly payment on Schumacher's house would be $33,489, assuming a 20 percent down payment on a 30-year fixed mortgage.
