Asked about Tim Scott, an African-American Republican senator who has disclosed that he was stopped seven times by police in a single year, Pence acknowledged that “we need to do a better job recognizing and correcting” problems that arise in law enforcement, but he insisted that his ticket’s approach to policing is the better one.  

“Let’s not have the reflex of assuming the worst of men and women in law enforcement,” he said, without directly addressing the kind of targeting Scott noted.
