Six years after the execution style shooting of a Buck’s County Pennsylvania attorney, the violent murder still remains a mystery.
Eric Birnbaum, a personal injury lawyer and father of two, was shot in the head as he got out of his car outside his office on February 11th, 2009. Birnbaum was rushed to St. Mary’s Medical Center, but he died that afternoon from his injuries.
A secretary inside the law firm said it was a lone gunman who walked right up to Birnbaum while he was talking with a co-worker.
“There’s at least one person or persons who know why Eric Birnbaum was killed. And they’re either to selfish or too scared to come forward,” Buck’s County prosecutor Matt Weintraub told NBC affiliate NBC10 last week.
Investigators said they have had very little to go on outside the description of a white man wearing a knit hat and sunglasses driving an older minivan. Despite the passing years, prosecutors said they have uncovered evidence that could help crack the case, but they still need someone to come forward to help identify any possible suspects.
"We're specifically interested in anyone who may have been traveling north or south on Buck Road that may have observed someone suspiciously in the area or a vehicle. Anything that they feel might benefit us," Police Chief Barry Pilla told NBC10 in 2009.
There is a $20,000 reward, offered by the Citizens Crime Commission, for information leading to an arrest in the case. If you have any information that could help bring justice for Eric, please call the Citizens Crime Commission at (215) 546-TIPS.
