When Danae Ringelmann failed to raise enough capital to bring an off-Broadway play she produced to the stage, she turned that failure into a business. In 2008, she co-founded Indiegogo, a crowdfunding website that has become a mega-hub for those looking to finance their business ideas big and small. From phone charging devices to independent films to – yes, even the world’s first “crowdfunded” baby via fertility treatment – Indiegogo has helped bring to life over 200,000 idea campaigns from 224 countries since its inception.
Here, the former varsity rower shares the apps that help her stay fit and clear her head.
To Stay Safe: bSafe
I never walk home alone. Nor should you. This app has it's own built-in smart, GPS-enabled SOS button and more. Thankfully, I've never had to use this, but I know some women's lives have been saved because of their ability to send out "I'm in trouble alerts" with the push of a button. bSafe, people!
To Capture: Instagram
This is perhaps my only private social network. From first steps of my niece to big smiles of my nephew, Instagram keeps me connected to my family, friends and all the important moments I don't want to miss.
To Stay Healthy: MyFitnessPal
My rowing teammate from college turned me onto this one. My best, most productive and happiest days are ones where I eat well and get exercise… a pretty simple recipe to feeling ready for anything – a must in start-up life.
To Zen Out: Buddhify
Life on the gogo is amazing. I travel a lot to learn and share the inspiring stories of our courageous customers bringing their ideas to life. But in order to truly listen with a wholehearted intent to understand – my mind must be clear and open. This app (which was funded on Indiegogo) helps me do just that: take a moment to clear thoughts so I can fully experience the world coming to life around me.
To Dance: SoundCloud
We were born to move. And when we do, we're all a little bit happier. The world is a better place because of music and this app helps me discover all that there is to enjoy.
