In 2004, Jessica Herrin was sitting in her living room, beginning to build the business that would become Stella & Dot, her jewelry and accessories company. With a newborn daughter, Herrin knew first-hand that a working mom needed flexible hours to successfully juggle career and family. But she also knew that traditional women-driven, home-based business models, pioneered by companies like Mary Kay and Avon, were primed for a contemporary reboot.
A decade later, Stella & Dot is a multi-million dollar company with 370 employees and over 18,000 accessory stylists across six countries. Here, the mom of two, shares the apps that help her handle her business and motivate her runs.
To Work Together: Box
Never without a document again! All of our files, images and documents are shared in this secure cloud storage app that is accessible from all mobile devices – it’s how the Stella & Dot team collaborates.
To Innovate: Dottie
This is Stella & Dot’s mobile app for styling and selling digitally and on-the-go. I can open up my iPad and share the latest collections from Stella & Dot, track business, watch videos and help finish the look with a few swipes. All of our brand’s merchandising is available just by tapping the screen, so we are using the combination of high tech and high touch to be the best at customer service!
To Share: Patter
This is my new favorite way to get the pics from someone else’s phone and share pics from mine of our shared experiences. Our Incentive trips, soccer games, joint family vacations... photos are no longer lost in the ether of someone else’s phone!
To Motivate: Nike Running
I love the recorded voice of some rock star athlete that tells me how awesome I am. Even if it’s a slow three miles, the recording is still impressed. Do you think they say that to everybody?
To Converse: Skype
Skype makes it so I can stay in touch with my kids when I travel for work. I virtually tell them to brush their teeth in the morning and read bedtime stories at night! It’s also a great way to stay in touch with our team in 6 countries.
