ORIGINAL ARTICLE 2:00PM EST:
The events surrounding Chelsey Green’s disappearance early Friday could not baffle her mother Maggie more.
“I’ve always seen these mothers on TV whose children have been missing for years and I always thought, ‘Oh, that is so horrible.’ Now that’s me.” Maggie Green told Dateline. “How is this me? It’s numbing.”
Maggie’s daughter Chelsey, 25, was last seen leaving a friend’s home around 3:00 a.m. Friday in Fort Myers Shores, Florida. Her mother says Chelsey had spent the afternoon helping bake treats and craft posters for an upcoming fundraising event there last weekend for a young girl for whom she used to babysit. Around 10:00 p.m., she called her mother to say she was heading to her friend’s home.
“She said, ‘Mom, be sure to call me in the morning so I’m up for work,’ and she told me she loved me and that was it,” said Maggie.
But Maggie never got to make that phone call. Chelsey reportedly left her friend Ashlee Eaton’s home in the middle of the night. That house is only blocks away from Chelsey’s.
"She just basically said I want to sleep in my own bed, and I want to take a shower,” Eaton told NBC2.
Around 3:30 a.m., one of Chelsey’s brothers says he noticed several missed calls from his sister on his phone, along with a GPS locater text. The location placed her near the State Round 31 Bridge. He, along with Chelsea’s roommate, then went out searching, but found nothing.
“I kept calling and calling and eventually her phone went right voicemail,” said Maggie. “Her neighborhood isn’t the nicest and my mind has me thinking all these horrible things now that could have happened.”
The car she was driving that night also is nowhere to be found. It’s a two-door 2003 Dodge Stratus license plate number FL-CPSP55 with a pink sticker on the rear window in remembrance of her father, who passed away in 2005.
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office has classified Chelsey as a missing person. “We are working the case as we are all of our missing persons cases,” Tony Schall, a Public Information Officer with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, told Dateline NBC in an email Monday. No further information was available at this time, according to their office.
The community has come out full force in searching for the 25-year-old, with a Facebook post by NBC affiliate NBC2 shared more than 20,000 times since Friday. The Facebook page ‘Bring Home Chelsey Green’ has garnered more than 6,500 likes as well. Chelsey’s mother Maggie says she could not be more thankful for all the support, but encourages anyone with information to contact detectives instead of posting online.
“Everyone is running around trying to find her and with this many people looking, it can get disorganized,” she said. “I don’t care what the story is or what happened. I just want her here, safe with me.”
Chelsey Green is described as 5’4” tall, weighing 120 lbs. with auburn hair, green eyes. If you have any information that could help bring Chelsey home, please call the Lee County Sheriff’s Office at (239) 477-1000.
There is currently a $5,000 reward offered by the family for information that helps bring Chelsey safely home.
