A body discovered in a submerged car Thursday evening has been identified as that of missing Indiana father Michael Hernandez, according to the Lake County Sheriff's Office.

Officials said divers from the Crown Point Fire Rescue and the sheriff's department discovered the car in a retention pond. Detectives had reportedly been targeting that area during the search efforts.

For nearly six weeks, family, friends and authorities had been desperately searching for the 23-year-old married father of twin baby girls, who vanished on May 1st after leaving the Safe House Bar and Grill in Crown Point after watching a Blackhawks game with friends.

"I saw him get into his car, I got into my car. I backed out first and that was it," Jake Fleming, one friend with Hernandez that night, told NBC5.

A press conference is scheduled for Friday at 12:30pm central where more information will be released.
