Man Who Helped Search for 22-Year-Old Charged with Her Murder

Several postings on the 'Help Find Alma DRG' Facebook Group suggest the man knew Del Real and had helped in the various searches for her.

Police in South Bend, Indiana announced late Wednesday they have recovered the body of Alma Del Real, 22, who vanished on April 12, and they have arrested a man who helped in the search efforts for her murder.

According to police, Alberto Cruz, 24, was booked into the St. Joseph County Jail Wednesday night on preliminary charges of murder in connection with Del Real's death. Investigators said after questioning Cruz, they were led to a "remote location in Marshall County" where Del Real's body was discovered.

Several postings on the 'Help Find Alma DRG' Facebook group suggest Cruz was an acquaintance of Del Real and had helped in the various searches for her. Police have not yet confirmed that information.

"We will continue to work diligently to hold everyone accountable on this case," Police Chief Ron Teachman of the South Bend Police Department told WNDU. "If anyone in your viewing or listening audience has information please contact the homicide office or Crimestoppers."

Del Real disappeared after spending a night out on April 12th at Studio Rumba 205 on South Main Street in South Bend. A friend reportedly dropped Alma off at her house around 3:30 that morning. She was never heard from again.
