If you’re looking for an exotic getaway this winter, we recommend South Africa. Granted, this dazzling country is one of the priciest spots to visit in wintertime, but you can save a serious chunk of cash with a deal we found. General Tours is offering an incredible-value package for just $3,899! This fully escorted adventure includes nine days in Cape Town and Kruger National Park, with six nights at upscale hotels, airfare, meals and guided tours.
If the price tag seems a little daunting, we’d like to inform you of the incredible savings you’ll enjoy if you leave by the end of March. April departures run up to $4249! Translated, that means you save $350 for a visit during the Southern Hemisphere’s beautiful summertime. Accommodation included is at three-star properties throughout. In Cape Town, you’ll spend three nights at Holiday Inn Cape Town Hotel, with an excellent location and more creature comforts than you’d expect of a chain property. This leg of the journey covers an aerial cable car ride to Table Mountain and a day trip to the unique seascapes of the Cape of Good Hope (with a cruise to Seal Island). Also covered is airfare to the world-famous Kruger National Park and three nights at Bongani Mountain Lodge, where you’ll enjoy four game drives (or three drives and a bush walk – your choice!) and hopefully spot the “Big Five” (lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhinoceros).
Daily breakfast is also thrown in, as are two lunches and three dinners. But, most importantly, the special includes air from New York, D.C. or Atlanta, and all on-tour transfers. We checked winter airfares from these three cities, and the lowest quote we got was $1130. Yes, you could arrange this trip independently and come to a similar price, but that’s without transfers and guided tours! And you certainly wouldn’t want to roam around Kruger by yourself, would you?
The package price of $3899 is quoted per person based on double occupancy. It’s exclusive of air taxes and fees, but does include all detailed above.
Those encounters with the Big Five are not for the faint-hearted!
