Police divers found a body in Lake Lillinonah that appears to match the description of a missing college student, authorities said Wednesday.

Connecticut State Police have been searching since yesterday for 22-year-old Joseph Zahornacky of Shelton.

He disappeared late Monday while driving from New York’s LaGuardia Airport to Manhattanville College in Purchase in Westchester, N.Y.

His vehicle was discovered sinking in Lake Lillinonah early Tuesday morning.

State police said they found a man’s body in the lake just before 11 a.m.

A spokesman said they are fairly confident it is Zahornacky’s body, but that they are awaiting confirmation. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death.

Zahornacky was last seen talking to a woman outside a drug store in Greenwich, around the time he called a friend and said he’d be back at the college in about ten minutes.

Police and Zahornacky’s family said Bridgewater wasn’t on his way back to the college, and there were no apparent reasons for him to be there.
