LIHU'E — After picking up a close 6-5 win in the first game, Kaua'i's Trent Allianic slashed a game-winning RBI single in the second contest for the 7-6 win, which gave the Red Raiders the sweep of Kapa'a, yesterday at the Vidinha Stadium Ballpark.Kaua'i improved to 6-4 overall and 3-2 in the second round. Meanwhile, the Warriors dropped to 0-11 on the season and 0-6 in round two.
Jordan Buster picked up the victory in game one and Allianic chipped in with the win in the second game.
Kapa'a jumped on the Red Raiders early on in the second contest, with a 4-0 lead going into the fourth inning.
Travis Nakamura nailed an RBI single, scoring Tyler Hadley for the 5-0 advantage in the fourth. Then in the fifth, Hadley hit an RBI single, scoring Waylan Kupihea for the 6-0 lead.
Kaua'i stormed back in its half of the fifth, highlighted by a Stanton Yoshimori RBI single, scoring Kalani Brackenridge, which made the score 6-2.
The Red Raiders tied the score at 6-6 in the sixth, thanks to an RBI triple by Yoshimori, an RBI sacrifice fly by Brackenridge, and an RBI by Ryson Sakamoto. Aaron Adachi, Allianic, and Sakamoto crossed the plate for the important runs.
With Warrior hurler C.J. Jacinto on the mound in the seventh, Kaua'i's Allianic ripped the game-winning RBI single, scoring Marcus Oketani, who was pinch-running for Schyler ArakakiIbia.
The KIF baseball finale is set for Wednesday, with Kaua'i visiting Waimea to face the KIF champion Menehune squad at 2:45 p.m. The 2006 HHSAA State Baseball Tournament is scheduled for May 17-20 at Iron Maehara Stadium on Maui.
