Scott Peterson's family offered a $250,000 reward Friday for information leading to an arrest in the murder of his pregnant wife. The family also offered a $5,000 reward for information leading to the recovery of Laci Peterson’s watch.
Peterson was convicted in November 2004 of killing Laci Peterson and her 8-month-old fetus. Now living on death row at San Quentin State Prison, he has always maintained his innocence.
The family is offering the reward for "specific information leading to an arrest and conviction for the abduction and murder of Laci and Conner Peterson, or for specific information leading to the exoneration and release of Scott Peterson," according to a press release.
"All of us remain deeply committed to Scott's innocence and to finding Laci's real killer," Lee Peterson, Scott Peterson's father, said in the statement.
Calls to the Petersons were not immediately returned.
Laci Peterson was eight months pregnant when her husband reported her missing on Christmas Eve 2002. At Scott Peterson's trial, prosecutors argued that he strangled her at the couple's home in Modesto and then dumped her body in the bay, near where Peterson claimed to have been fishing that Christmas Eve day.
Five people ultimately shared a $50,000 reward for finding the badly decomposed corpses of Laci Peterson and her fetus along the shore of San Francisco Bay.
Prosecutors said Peterson was motivated by a desire to escape marriage and his impending fatherhood. He was having an extramarital affair when his wife disappeared.
The true-crime story of Laci Peterson's disappearance and Scott Peterson's arrest and trial received intense media coverage for more than two years. Several of the people connected to the case — including Laci Peterson's mother and Scott Peterson's former mistress — have written books.
Scott Peterson has appealed his conviction and death sentence.
The Web site offering the rewards indicates that the $5,000 reward is offered in hopes of recovering the Croton watch that Laci Peterson was believed to be wearing when she disappeared.
The site also has an appeal for photos, traffic video, surveillance video or satellite photos of Modesto, the bay and highways in between on Dec, 24, 2002. There is also a request for satellite or other photography of the bay between the date of Laci Peterson's disappearance and her corpse's discovery on April 14, 2003.
