Johnson's relatives, including a pair of great-nieces who traveled from Michigan and Illinois, crowded the Richmond home Monday that he and his late wife built some 70 years ago, according to the San Jose Mercury News.

Johnson, born May 1, 1894, is a lifelong baseball fan, and the San Francisco Giants sent him a ball cap as a gift.
Johnson's age and status as the state's oldest resident was verified by the Los Angeles-based Gerontology Research Group, which keeps a global database on people living past 100.
When a great-niece told him he was the best-looking 112-year-old she knew, Johnson quipped to the newspaper, "How about you being the best-looking girls I know. Where were you when I was 12 or 15?"
