A train collided with a car Friday, killing three passengers in the car and critically injuring the driver, authorities said. No one aboard the train was hurt.
The car was struck around 2:15 p.m. while crossing tracks in southern Fayette County, about 30 miles east of Memphis, said Bill Dunn, a dispatcher for the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
The intersection had a stop sign and was marked as a train crossing, but it did not have a gate or warning bells, Dunn said.
The victims’ identities have not been released, but authorities said everyone in the car was female and three were teenagers.
Two were pronounced dead at the scene and two were airlifted to Memphis hospitals, where one later died.
