The Sun newspaper apologized on Wednesday for printing three-year-old pictures of Prince Harry groping a woman in a nightclub which it had claimed had been taken this summer.
Under the headlines “Dirty Harry” and “Squeezer Geezer,” the British daily had run a front page and center spread of Harry, 21, and his elder brother Prince William, 24, during a raucous night out with friends.
One of the photos featured Harry squeezing the breast of TV presenter Natalie Pinkham. The picture, the Sun said on Tuesday, “may leave Harry with a little explaining to do to girlfriend Chelsy Davy, who was abroad at the time.”
It had claimed the photos were taken this summer at London nightclub Boujis, a favorite haunt of the two princes, the sons of heir to the throne Prince Charles and the late Princess Diana.
But after a protest from Charles’ office, the paper was forced to print an apology on Wednesday, admitting the pictures had been taken in 2003 — before Harry met Davy — and at a different club.
“We accept that the nightclub was the Purple nightclub and not Boujis as we said and the photographs were taken in autumn 2003 and not summer 2006,” the tabloid said.
It also apologized to Pinkham, who had said the photographs had belonged to her, and promised to make a payment to a charity of her choice.
