A motorcyclist barreled into a crowd at a Veteran’s Day parade in this Detroit suburb Sunday, sending 11 spectators to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The accident happened at the end of the parade route when a member of a motorcycle group in the parade attempted to turn off the main boulevard. The man opened up his throttle and lost control, veering into a crowd of at least 50 people, said Police Chief Michael Lauretti, who witnessed the incident.
The motorcyclist, a 56-year-old man from Clinton Township in Macomb County, was arrested. Charges were expected to be filed Monday, Lauretti said.
A Cub Scout leader saw the oncoming motorcycle and pushed several kids out of the way, Lauretti said.
Six adults and five children ages 10 to 17 were injured.
