John McCain is 70, Rudy Giuliani has been married three times and Mitt Romney is Mormon—not a problem for being president, Vice President Dick Cheney says.
But while age, multiple marriages and religion don’t matter, Cheney said, he wouldn’t predict which of those Republicans may be his party’s nominee for president in the 2008 election.
“I’m, at this point, scrupulously neutral in the competition,” Cheney told ABC News Radio Wednesday.
Cheney, 66, married his high school sweetheart Lynne in 1964.
The vice president, likewise a Republican but one who is not running to succeed President Bush, knows a bit about troubles facing potential candidates.
Spending most of the past 40 years in Washington, Cheney had a series of heart-related problems, most recently he was treated for a blood clot in his leg. He also is a favorite target of Bush administration critics.
“I’ve loved it,” Cheney said. “It’s been a great career.”
