Republican presidential hopeful and Arizona Senator John McCain insists there is progress being made in Iraq and that he disagrees with what the majority of American people want on that issue.

Appearing on CBS' "60 Minutes," McCain says failure and withdrawal in Iraq will lead to "catastrophic" consequences.

He also sought to clarify his comments about progress after taking a heavily guarded walk in Baghdad. McCain says that two months ago, his request to do so would have been rejected out of hand.

McCain admits he misspoke during his visit to Iraq, but notes he's done so before, likely will again and regrets that, but he remains comfortable with himself.

He says that while President Bush is ultimately responsible for what happens, his new policy, including more troops for Iraq, deserves support and a chance to succeed.
