Welcome to the Windy City. Literally.

The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory for Cook, Will, DeKalb, DuPage, Kane, Kankakee and McHenry counties, with winds expected to gust upward of 50 mph, NBC5's website reported.

O'Hare and Midway airports are expecting flight delays Thursday afternoon and possibly into the evening due to the windy conditions, according to the City Department of Aviation, WMAQ-TV's website reported.

"We advise travelers to contact their airlines to check on the status of their flight, or visit flychicago.com," for flight information, said Aviation spokesman Gregg Cunningham.

According to the National Weather Service's website, the strong storms are expected to pass through the area between 6 p.m. Thursday and 2 a.m. Friday.
