A Delta Air Lines flight to New York returned to Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport on Tuesday when someone smelled smoke.

During takeoff there was a report of a smoky odor in the cabin, and the pilot decided to return to BWI, Delta spokesman Anthony Black said.

The plane landed without incident and taxied to the gate, where passengers got off.

The Delta Connection flight operated by Freedom Airlines was headed to John F. Kennedy International Airport.

Flight 6020 was scheduled to leave at 2:29 p.m. The plane was being inspected and was rescheduled to leave a few hours later.
